A HEARTBROKEN Thierry Henry interrupted Sergio Camello’s interview after his goal saw Spain beat France to win gold at Paris 2024.

In a thrilling men’s football Olympic final at the iconic Parc des Princes in Paris, Spain beat France 5-3.

A lot was riding on French legend Henry, who is used to winning as a player but not as a coach.

But the man of the moment was Rayo Vallecano’s Camello, whose double strike in extra time sealed the gold medal for Spain crushing Henry’s title hopes.

In an interview after the victory with Camello, a dejected Henry was spotted congratulating the 23-year-old.

Camello said: “Me scoring those goals. Thanks to my teammates for believing in me.

“The goalkeeper coach told me that he dreamed that I would score the goal of the final. Olympic champions.

“This is history, since 1992. We will value it more as time goes on. We are the happiest kids in the world.”

France opened the scoreline but La Roja hit back with three goals in 10 minutes through Alex Baena and Fermin Lopez’s brace to take a 3-1 lead at half-time.

Then Maghnes Akliouche’s flick and Jean-Philippe Mateta’s last-minute penalty made it 3-3.

But Camello’s terrific comeback meant Spain was crowned the men’s Olympic soccer champion for the first time since 1992.

Spain’s gold medal in Paris comes less than a month after the senior national team won Euro 2024.

And La Roja beat France 2-1 along the way in the semifinals.

Despite not winning Henry said he was proud of his squad.

He said: “There were a few minutes during the first half in which we disappeared and we paid a high price for that.

“Then we were able to recover and get back in the game. It wasn’t easy to build this team up, but I’m proud of the work we did.”
