A NEW Harley-Davidson store is coming to a city in New York, but visitors won’t walk out with a new ride.
Businessman Paul Gutman already has a dealership in his hometown, Rochester, so he opened another store that some have deemed “odd.”
Gutman has reserved prime downtown retail space to start a Harley-Davidson retail store.
This bizarre shop will sell only Harley paraphernalia like stickers, shirts, and hats, but there won’t be any bikes for sale.
The motorbike lover plans on displaying a shiny ride in the middle as decoration, but anyone who wants to take one for a spin can make the journey to his dealership.
He’s starting the store with hopes it will divert downtown foot traffic right to his other doorstep.
“I wanted to put the dealership on the map,” he told the Post Bulletin.
“Being downtown with Harley-Davidson screaming on First Avenue gives us that opportunity to say Harley is in town.”
Gutman has ambitious plans to open the store quickly, and is opening to be up and running by the end of December.
He’s also thought of a creative promotional tactic to get people buying his bikes.
If anyone is interested in visiting Gutman’s dealership, he will pay Uber to get them straight to its doorstep.
“If you want to go look at bikes, we’ll call an Uber for you,” said the excited businessman.
Gutman is a Rochester native, but lives 11 hours away in Effingham, Illinois, where he purchased his first Harley dealership.
However, he always dreamed of owning and operating the shop in his hometown.
When it was time for the previous owners to sell, they reached out to Gutman and said they were happy to leave it in his hands.
