Gout Gout blows world away with ‘unbelievable’ run at All Schools Athletics Championships

Australian sprint sensation Gout Gout has blown his rivals away with a spectacular run at the All Schools Athletics Championships in Brisbane on Friday.

The 16-year-old showed why he has been labelled the next Usain Bolt with a ridiculous time of 10.04 — a new meet record — in his heat.

After starting OK, Gout suddenly exploded and looked like he was running on air as he went within a whisker of breaking the magical 10-second barrier.

“He hasn’t even touched the ground yet, the young man, boomed away in the heats and he is gone,” commentator Mitch Dyer said.

“That is absolutely unbelievable.

“Ladies and gentleman, that is history.”

Gout’s time was the fourth-fasted by an Australian in history.

Only an illegal tailwind of 3.4 m/sec prevented the Queenslander’s heat time of 10.04 seconds being recorded as a national under-18 record in this much-hyped performance on his home track.

His time crushed Jack Hale’s meet record of 10.13 and promises of more to come as he closes in on an elusive sub-10 second run and Patrick Johnson’s 9.93 national record set in Japan 21 years ago.

Gout’s reputation has snowballed this past year. He has become a social media sensation even to casual observers of athletics who’ve gorged on viral videos of his track success.

On top of that he’s claimed at least four national age group records over the 100m and 200m.

This competition marks the beginning of his time as an athlete who carries the enormous domestic and international weight of the sport’s next track superstar.

He will race in the final later on Friday.

More to come …
