A touching video capturing the moment a golden retriever received a golden retriever puppy sibling as a Christmas surprise has moved the hearts of millions on TikTok.
Shared by user @golden_boy_boonie, the video has amassed 2.3 million views since it was posted on December 9, delighting viewers with its display of canine joy and excitement. A caption on the post reads: “Getting your golden a golden for Christmas.”
The video begins with a man holding a fluffy golden retriever puppy in his arms. An older golden retriever, visibly ecstatic, jumps up towards the man, eager to see the new arrival.
The man then kneels down to allow the older dog to get a closer look at the puppy. The video concludes with the two dogs happily playing together, showcasing the beginning of a beautiful bond.
The heartwarming connection between the two is no surprise as “dogs can form relationships of comparable qualities with both humans and other dogs,” noted a March 2019 study published in Scientific Reports and these relationships can vary across different partners.
Stanley Coren, a professor emeritus in the department of psychology at the University of British Columbia and the author of several books about dogs, elaborated on how dogs form bonds in a February 2013 article for Psychology Today.
Coren explained that “dogs that have been properly socialized will congenially approach virtually anything that is alive, regardless of its species, and, unless they receive hostile signals, they will attempt to establish a good-natured relationship.”
The professor further noted that “although dogs are happiest when they are in a social situation, the species that they are interacting with is less important than the quality of the interactions.”
‘I’m Obsessed’
Viewers on TikTok were quick to express their joy and enthusiasm over the delightful interaction between the golden retrievers.
Lucy commented: “He’s like ‘I’ve always wanted a dog!'” while @tricias_f exclaimed: “Oh my God stop this is the cutest!!!”
User @beebb42 humorously imagined the older dog’s thoughts, saying: “Did we just become best friends!?!? YUP.”
Vickparsons92 added: “I would love to know what telepathic conversation was happening when the tippy taps and air slaps were happening,” and user6003654437167 said: “The I’m obsessed.”
Jo Bradshaw observed: “The baby is learning how to play SO well already,” highlighting the puppy’s quick adaptation.
Another user, coll, remarked: “That’s the rolliest polliest golden retriever puppy I have ever seen and I love him. What Italian grandmother fed him before he came to live with you?”
