Former AEW Champion Reportedly Out Until 2025 With Significant Injury

A new report from Fightful Select says that former AEW Continental Champion Eddie Kingston will be out of the ring until at least next year with injuries.

Kingston suffered a serious injury during NJPW Resurgence in May, where he lost the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship to Gabe Kidd and was attacked afterward by The Elite.

Reportedly, Kingston sustained a fractured tibia, the larger of the two bones in the lower leg, which was confirmed through x-rays taken in California.

The injury occurred when Kingston took a suplex through a table that was bridged between the ring and the guard rail, with his legs slamming over the rail as he went through the table.

Fightful Select says, “Kingston got injured…and the original thought was that he’d just broken his leg. However, they realized pretty soon he’d torn his ACL and meniscus. He underwent surgery, and we were told to not expect him back until Spring/Summer 2025.”

Speaking to “The DAVINci Report” in September, Kingston himself spoke about his impatience to recover, saying he was “just healing up from a fracture of my tibia, strain on my meniscus, and I had to get my ACL replaced. A lot of fun.”

“It’s been a process. It’s going good until my insurance acts up, and that’s when I get annoyed. Insurance is a fraud, folks. Just throwing that out there. I’m starting to get itchy at home. I can walk now, a little bit. I can walk, I can lift weights. I can do squats a little bit, not too low. Now it’s at the point of, ‘Let’s hurry this up. Let’s get going.'”

Kingston officially joined AEW in 2020, making his debut during an episode of AEW Dynamite. He has been a key figure in the promotion since then, engaging in memorable rivalries with Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Jon Moxley.

With AEW, Kingston won the ROH World Championship and the AEW Continental Championship.

Kingston also joined NJPW in 2021, when he made his debut during the NJPW Resurgence event. He would later become a prominent part of NJPW Strong, the U.S.-based branch of the company, while also still appearing on AEW.

At one point, Kingston was a Triple Crown Champion, holding the ROH World Championship, AEW Continental Championship, and the Strong Openweight Championship at the same time.
