Other Republicans and former Trump voters have also opened up about the “breaking point” moments that made them stop supporting Trump, and others have vulnerably shared how they deconstructed from racist and sexist belief systems after leaving their conservative circles behind.
Let’s chat about all things 2024 Election
With more and more Republicans speaking out against another Trump presidency, I wanted to hear from them directly about why they’re not voting for Trump. So, if you’re a former or current Republican, what are you most scared of if Trump is president again?
Maybe you’re mostly concerned with the divisiveness in our nation, and you’re worried the hate and anger will only get worse with another Trump presidency. You’ve personally had to cut ties with friends and family who’ve gotten wrapped up in hateful conspiracies, and you feel it’s only going to get worse with a president who allows them to thrive.
Perhaps you don’t exactly agree with all of Harris’s policies, but you are deeply concerned about Trump’s dismissal of climate change, especially after being personally affected by the hurricanes this year. You’re worried it’s only going to get worse if we have people in power denying climate change.
Maybe you’ve been a lifelong Republican or even former Trump supporter, but after John Kelly, Trump’s longest-serving chief of staff, said Trump met the definition of a fascist, you’re genuinely worried we could be heading towards a dictatorship.
If you’re a Republican — former or not — and aren’t voting for Donald Trump, let me know why and what you’re worried about ahead of the election, and if Trump is president. Share your thoughts in the comments or on this anonymous form.
