Eddie Jordan Reveals Extent Of Ferrari’s Failed Adrian Newey Negotiations

In a discussion on the ‘Formula for Success’ podcast, Eddie Jordan provided deep insights into Adrian Newey’s recent move to Aston Martin. Newey, the legendary Formula 1 designer, has officially departed from Red Bull and is set to bring his expertise to Aston Martin in March 2025. This decision comes after extensive discussions with Ferrari.

Eddie Jordan, Newey’s manager and former F1 team owner, outlined the intricate details of these negotiations. He explained:

“Of course, we had long conversations with Ferrari, but Aston Martin and Fernando were the ones who again gave what Adrian feels was, if you like, the juice to his challenges.”

Newey’s aim with Aston Martin is clear – to replicate and perhaps surpass the success he enjoyed at Red Bull.

“I wanted to see how I could get a team on par with Red Bull, from the top five to the top spot… And here we have a team that I think is now going to be on the move. It will be interesting and exciting to see how it develops.”

The future outlook for the Silverstone-based team is bright, with Jordan revealing high expectations for the collaboration between Newey and Lawrence Stroll, the team owner. He added:

“And I have to believe that in the future this has the opportunity and the success that will be achieved by someone like a privateer team like Aston Martin in the hands of Lawrence Stroll, run and controlled and engineered by Adrian Newey, has the most incredible opportunity to be one of the great teams of the great future.”

Despite the promise of a remarkable future, the current season has been challenging for Aston Martin. The team has garnered only 74 points with eight races left, a disappointing performance compared to the 280 points they accumulated last season. This significant drop in performance reveals the critical need for Newey’s technical leadership to revitalize the team. His innovative designs are expected to be game-changing.

Newey’s arrival at Aston Martin heralds a new era for the team. With his track record of transforming teams into world champions, there’s a palpable sense of anticipation within the F1 community.
