Eddie Hearn likes ‘massive’ Teofimo Lopez fight for Jaron Ennis

Eddie Hearn likes ‘massive’ Teofimo Lopez fight for Jaron Ennis

HAMBURG – Eddie Hearn revealed he is keen on matching Jaron “Boots” Ennis with Teofimo Lopez after news broke that talks to match them had begun.

Ennis is the IBF welterweight champion, while Lopez has been undisputed champion at lightweight and WBO junior-welterweight champion and wants to be a three-weight king.

Top Rank had earlier confirmed that talks were ongoing. Lopez is looking for a big fight at 147, but Ennis hopes to unify, which means Lopez is not a priority.

Regardless, Hearn likes the idea of matching Lopez and Ennis, which he views it as an East Coast fight that could happen in New York or Philadelphia. One source connected to the negotiations cited a working date as March

“The issue is the only thing that ‘Boots’ wants to do is unify,” said Hearn. “The reason he didn’t move to 154 is he wants to unify. I like the Teofimo Lopez fight. Boots likes it as well.

“If you said to him Teofimo Lopez or unification, it’s the fastest decision in the world. He just wants to unify. But if we can’t get unification, it’s definitely a fight we have to look at. I think it’s a massive fight.”
