Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts Provides Mixed Update on Tyler Glasnow

Despite the storybook ending of Shohei Ohtani reaching the 40-40 club on Friday night, the status of Dodgers ace Tyler Glasnow is slowly developing into a horror story.

As October baseball quickly approaches, Glasnow has limited time to recover and get back to his best form.

The Dodgers starting rotation has struggled to stay healthy this season, which has muddled the plans for the Los Angeles rotation in the postseason.

Glasnow has emerged as the Dodgers ace but will remain on the injured list with elbow tendonitis until next month.

The right-hander was projected to return after a 15-day stint on the injured list, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the timeline has changed as of late.

“I know he’s probably frustrated,” the Roberts told Jack Harris of The Los Angeles Times. “But you’ve got to listen to your body.”

Glasnow understands the urgency to aid the Dodgers on the mound, but the risk of returning too soon isn’t worth the rush.

“He was fighting to stay off the IL and wants to be there for his teammates,” Roberts continued. “But I think with the build-up that he’s had, [missing] a couple weeks isn’t going to cut too much into what he’s already been built up to do.”

The question remains whether Glasnow will have enough time to get into a solid rhythm for the playoffs.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto also remains on the injured list with a shoulder injury he sustained in June. Though Yamamoto threw his second simulated game on Wednesday.

The Dodgers acquired Glasnow and Yamamoto in the offseason to fortify the pitching rotation. Los Angeles invested around half of a billion dollars to add the right-handers to the pitching staff.

The offseason additions have served as a dominant duo for the Dodgers. No other members of the pitching staff have been as consistent as Glasnow and Yamamoto.

If Glasnow isn’t ready for the postseason, all the resources the Dodgers allocated to his arrival in the clubhouse will result in nil.

The Dodgers can’t afford to fail in the postseason, yet again. But their efforts will be doomed from the start if the Los Angeles ace isn’t throwing at his best form.

At this point, all the Dodgers can do is wait.

Postseason baseball is going to be a movie for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but what genre the film will be in remains a mystery.
