DNC Day 3: Here’s What To Expect As Tim Walz Delivers Speech Of His Life

Vice President Kamala Harris was formally chosen to be the Democratic nominee in November last night, but there are still two more days of the party’s convention in Chicago.

Harris and her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, were campaigning in Minnesota on Tuesday night, but the vice presidential nominee will take the convention stage on Wednesday to deliver his acceptance speech.

Here’s what else to expect on Day 3 of the Democratic National Convention:

Speakers, Guests & Performers

Before Walz takes the stage, former President Bill Clinton, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will deliver their own remarks at the convention on Wednesday.

Pelosi’s speech is among one of the most closely-watched this convention. The Democratic heavyweight was reportedly a major figure in the push to replace Biden as the party’s nominee.

She attended both Day 1 and 2 of the convention, holding “We ❤️ Joe” signs and appearing alongside California Governor Gavin Newsom during the state’s roll call vote, but Wednesday will be the first time the crowds will hear from her.

ActressMindy Kaling will be the celebrity host on Wednesday.

Kaling, known for her roles on The Office and The Mindy Project, will host on Wednesday night. In addition to her work in entertainment, Kaling has been active in politics, co-chairing a fundraiser for Biden’s 2020 campaign with actress Reese Witherspoon.

She has also used her platform to celebrate her Indian heritage, including cooking masala dosa with then-Senator Kamala Harris in a widely-viewed YouTube video.

This video recently resurfaced after former President Donald Trump shared it on his social media platform, using it to question Harris’s racial identity.

‘A Fight for Our Freedoms’

Wednesday’s theme will focus on Harris and Walz’ “fight for our freedoms.”

A press release from Harris campaign said the vice president has “spent her entire career fighting for Americans’ freedoms” and described Walz as “a champion for America’s working families and a staunch defender of those same fundamental freedoms.”

Donald Trump spent his four years in office fighting to strip our rights away, and he’s once again running on an extreme agenda to go even farther in turning back the clock on all the freedoms we hold dear,” the campaign said in a statement.

On Tuesday, the delegates held a ceremonial vote to make Harris the presidential nominee in a triumphant and lively display of support for the vice president that even conservatives admitted blew the Republican National Convention’s roll call “out of the water.”

The party on the arena floor included a surprise performance from rapper Lil Jon, who sang “Turn Down for What,” as well as specially-selected songs for each state’s vote, with Florida voting to Tom Petty’s “Won’t Back Down,” Tennessee voting to Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” and Texas voting to Beyonce’s “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

The list of speakers included former First Lady Michelle Obama, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Senator Bernie Sanders, Senate Leader Chuck Schumer, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and former Trump White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham.

Former President Barack Obama delivered the keynote speech, telling the nation, “America’s ready for a new chapter. America’s ready for a better story. We are ready for a President Kamala Harris, and Kamala Harris is ready for the job.””
