NBA Hall of Famer and former Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki wants superstars Luka Dončić of the Mavericks and Nikola Jokić of the Denver Nuggets to eventually team up in Dallas.

Nowitzki is in Ljubljana, Slovenia, to celebrate retiring point guard Goran Dragic’s career, which will end in a friendly game Saturday. While speaking to reporters, he said he would prefer Jokić to go to Dallas to team up with the fellow European star.
“I hope that would be in Dallas,” Nowitzki told reporters, via Eurohoops’ Cesare Milanti. “I’m not sure if that will ever happen, but obviously both are two of the best players in the world, if not the best players in the world.”
“They both have a great relationship with each other, they respect each other and like each other genuinely,” Nowitzki added. “They spend time with each other. I’m not sure, but of course, we want Luka in Dallas as long as we can. Hopefully, he finishes his career there, but I love Jokic’s game, how he plays the game with passion, and the skill level as a big is unbelievable. They’re both incredible players.”
Nowitzki spent his entire 21-year career in Dallas, including Dončić’s rookie season in 2018-19.
A potential duo of Dončić and Jokić would be a scary thing in the league. These two players are among the top five players in the world, and perhaps the two best contemporary offensive talents in the league. A championship would be on the horizon for these two superstars if they were to end up as teammates.
Although the German superstar never had the opportunity to team up with another superstar in his career (Jason Kidd was at a different phase of his career when he arrived to the team), Nowitzki still brought the first and only championship to the city of Dallas in 2011.
Jokić did the same in the 2022-23 season when he led the Denver Nuggets to their first-ever title. As for Dončić, he came up short this past June when the Mavericks were defeated by the Boston Celtics in five games during the 2024 NBA Finals. It was the first time the Mavericks had made it to the Finals since 2011.
Those who want to see Dončić and Jokić on the same team can watch Dragic’s farewell game on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET on the NBA app.
Whether a team-up happens or not, these two superstars are taking the league by storm, and they will only get better as their careers progress.
