A DENTIST accused of poisoning his wife has been charged over a suspected plot to kill a cop probing the case.
James Craig, of Colorado, allegedly killed his wife of more than 20 years, Angela, with shakes that were laced with poison.
She died in 2023 and was found to have substances found in eye drops in her system.
Craig was charged with her murder and pled not guilty to the accusations.
But, he has been hit with fresh charges.
Cops have now charged Craig with solicitation to commit murder and solicitation to commit perjury.
Craig, who is behind bars, allegedly tried to convince an inmate to kill an officer who is probing the suspected murder case, an Aurora Police Department source told the Associated Press.
The extra charges mean the dentist is now facing six in total.
It remains unknown when Craig’s murder trial will kick off.
Mom-of-six Angela, 43, died in March last year and went to the hospital three times in that month, according to court docs viewed by The U.S. Sun.
Craig allegedly laced her protein shakes with poison.
He reportedly made his wife a shake on March 6, and she started to feel dizzy.
Craig took her to the hospital after she felt faint.
Text messages seen by cops revealed that Angela told her husband that she was feeling drugged, as reported by People.
But Craig vehemently stressed that he did not drug his wife.
On the same day, Craig allegedly ordered a toxic plant extract, but it never arrived because it was intercepted by FedEx, according to court docs.
She was released from hospital on March 6, but made a second trip within days.
Angela was discharged on March 14 but was back in the hospital a day later.
James Craig case
DENTIST James Craig faces two extra charges in connection with a plot to kill a detective probing his suspected murder case. He is accused of killing his wife Angela.
March 6 2023: Angela falls ill after drinking shakes reportedly made by Craig. He takes her to the hospital, and she is released the same day.
March 8 – 10 2023: Craig tries to arrange lover to travel to Colorado.
March 14: Angela is discharged from hospital for a second time.
March 15: She is re-admitted, and her condition deteriorates.
March 16: She suffered a seizure and was put in intensive care
March 18: Angela, Craig’s wife of 23 years, is pronounced brain dead.
March 19: Craig arrested on murder charges in connection with her death.
March 23: Craig formally charged with murder
November 21, 2024: Trial delayed after defense attorney withdraws.
Angela suffered a seizure on March 16, and her condition deteriorated.
She was put in intensive care, but medical experts didn’t know what had caused her condition to rapidly decline.
Medics pronounced her brain dead on March 18.
Toxicology reports revealed that she died from cyanide and tetrahydrozoline poisoning.
Court documents claimed that Craig killed his wife to start a new life with orthodontist Karin Cain, who was in the process of divorcing her husband.
Legal papers revealed he reportedly arranged to have her fly to Colorado when Angela was ill.
Text messages showed the pair using affectionate language.
However, Craig reportedly sent his wife affectionate messages while she was in the hospital.
He also expressed concern about Angela’s welfare.
Months later, Cain spoke out on Good Morning America and revealed she wasn’t willing to have a relationship with someone who was married.
“There’s been no planning a future together,” she said.
‘NO FUTURE’
Police branded Angela’s death a “heinous” murder and unearthed a series of Google searches allegedly made by Craig.
Court documents also revealed that Craig ordered potassium cyanide – even though he didn’t need it to carry out his job.
Craig had reportedly messaged a fellow employee, informing her not to open the package, according to court documents.
He was reportedly quizzed on why he would apparently order the poison.
Angela’s business partner told a nurse, who then reported the package to cops.
Craig was charged with first-degree murder on March 23 and, that summer, charged with solicitation to commit tampering with physical evidence.
Angela’s death was ruled a homicide following a probe.
TRIAL DELAYED
But, cops have since claimed that Craig tried to convince a prison inmate to plant suicide notes in the family home, as reported by The New York Post.
Police said he tried to convince investigators that Angela’s death was a suicide rather than a poisoning, as the toxicology reports suggested.
Prosecutors claimed Craig had offered them free dental work or money.
But, the inmate didn’t take Craig up on his offer. They told the police.
Craig’s defense team claimed that the inmate was not a credible witness.
His trial was about to get underway but has since been delayed indefinitely.
This is because his lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, has withdrawn from his defense team.
He withdrew just before jury selection was due to start.
Craig is due to appear in court with a new attorney on December 16.
