THE Dallas Cowboys’ mayhem of a season only continued after a massive blunder that all but ended their playoff aspirations against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The play occurred late in the fourth quarter of the eventual 27-20 Bengals victory on Monday Night Football in Week 14.
The Cowboys forced the Bengals to punt with the game tied at 20 late in the fourth quarter.
Dallas linebacker Nick Vigil blocked Ryan Rehkow’s punt and it seemed the team would have great field position.
However, cornerback Amani Oruwariye tried to field it and fumbled which led to the Bengals recovering the football.
A few plays later, Cincinnati star Joe Burrow connected with Ja’Marr Chase scored a 40-yard touchdown, and gave them a 27-20 lead with just over one minute left.

The Cowboys got the ball back but turned it over on downs to seal the defeat.
Dallas is now a disappointing 5-8 for the season.
So NFL fans weren’t afraid to react to the punting miscue on social media.
“I have been watching football for around 40 years and I never seen that ever happen in a game,” one commented.
“Only the Cowboys screw up a blocked punt,” another wrote.
“Every year there becomes a new “Most Cowboys thing ever,” a third added.
Burrow threw for 368 passing and three touchdowns on 33-of-44 passing.
Chase, meanwhile, recorded an astounding 177 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 14 receptions.
The victory gave the Bengals a 5-8 so they still need to be near-perfect to make the playoffs.
The fumble mistake during the punt play came from the journeyman former fifth-rounder Oruwariye, who was called off injured reserve ahead of the game.
The play mirrored the famous blunder by former Cowboys player Leon Lett, who touched a blocked field goal to turn what would’ve been a snowy Thanksgiving victory into a brutal loss to the Miami Dolphins in 1993.
“Of course, that locker room is really devastated by the turn of events on the blocked kick,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said after the game.
“Obviously, we had a block kick called, made to play and then one in so many odds turn against us.”
The Cowboys will almost surely have to win their last four games to even have a shot of making the postseason.
They have a disappointing 1-6 record at home.
Dallas will take on the Carolina Panthers next Sunday.
