The College Football Playoff is underway and now has two games done with. In the first game, Notre Dame dominated Indiana to advance to the quarterfinals.

Now in this second game between the SMU Mustangs and Penn State Nittany Lions, we were given more action. The game was played from Beaver Stadium, giving Penn State a massive advantage location-wise.
The final score came in at 38-10 in favor of the Nittany Lions. They will now move on to the next round to face off against the Boise State Broncos.
SMU took it to the Nittany Lions defense on the opening drive but failed to pick up a first down close to the endzone. SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings could have run for the first down but got a little greedy, throwing the ball to what looked like an open receiver.

The ball wasn’t placed very well and Penn State was able to knock it away. This put a damper on what was an impressive drive for the Mustangs,
Penn State opened the scoring on a pick-six with about six minutes to go in the first quarter. Jennings overthrew a pass and the Nittany Lions defender grabbed it to run it back.
Penn State added another touchdown, again courtesy of a pick-six. Jennings floated a ball again and it was grabbed by the Nittany Lions.
Jennings threw a third interception and this time the Penn State offense was able to get into the endzone. The Nittany Lions took control of the game, going up 21-0 over SMU.
Heading into the half, Penn State led SMU by a score of 28-0. The Penn State defense dominated throughout the half and made life tough on the Mustangs offense.
SMU finally got on the scoreboard during their opening drive of the second half, grabbing a field goal to cut the lead down to 28-3. The Nittany Lions controlled the rest of the game and came away with a massive victory at home.
The Mustangs put together a strong season despite this loss. They can take from this great season and push forward in the ACC.
As for Penn State, they will get ready to face Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. The game will be played on Dec. 31 at 4:30 p.m. PT/ 7:30 p.m. ET from State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Boise State has been one of the best teams in the country this season but the Nittany Lions will challenge them. This matchup should be very intriguing to watch play out and we will have more coverage for you moving forward.
