A photo recently circulated of the MCU actor signing what looked like an artillery shell for U.S. Armed Forces. As Reuters points out, several months ago a post circulated on Facebook suggesting that Chris had autographed a weapon that was dropped on Palestinian civilians during Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza.
“There’s a lot of misinformation surrounding this picture,” Chris wrote, before offering “clarification” about the image, which was taken in 2016 during a USO visit to Adana, Turkey. (Here’s another picture from the trip, which Avengers co-star Scarlett Johansson also attended.)
“I went with a group of actors, athletes and musicians to show appreciation for our service members,” Chris explained. “The object I was asked to sign is not a bomb, or a missile, or a weapon of any kind. It’s an inert object used for training or display purposes only.”
Chris also shared a screenshot of an AFP Fact Check about the photo, which further clarified what he said in the previous slide.
