The male suspect, whose name hasn’t been released, is believed to have killed his wife, and driven through the night to the bridge.

After police engaged with the suspect on the bridge early Thursday morning, a shootout occurred, leading to the man’s death.

Officers then discovered an 8-year-old child, also fatally shot, inside the vehicle.

New Hampshire State Police confirmed that the bridge, which connects the state with Maine, is closed in both directions due to an active police scene.

“I-95 Northbound and Southbound at the Piscataqua River Bridge ‘High Rise Bridge’ is closed due to an active incident,” the department wrote on X.

“Troopers are on scene. Drivers should anticipate delays and avoid the area if possible,” they added.
