Chiefs News: Tight End Legend Isn’t Worried About Travis Kelce’s Slow Start

The 2024 NFL season is in full swing, and while that may be the case, many players have yet to hit their groove.

While some players have been terrific, others have struggled to start the season. One such player is Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce.

Kelce has looked like a shell of himself thus far, and many have wondered if Father Time has finally caught up with him.

Kelce, 34, is no longer a spring chicken. He no longer looks like the dominant tight end we all came to know and love. However, while some are worried about his play and production, others aren’t, like former NFL tight end and All-Pro Vernon Davis.

Davis spoke with Noah Camras of L.A. Sports Report and said he isn’t worried about Kelce’s slow start.

“Sometimes, when you involve different weapons within the offense or the maybe game plan changes a little bit, or maybe just by coincidence that player is getting open a little more, so I’m gonna go here. Sometimes it happens that way.”

“It’s not anything about Kelce. It’s just the business. It’s the business of football. You’re not going to always be the focal point for 10 to 12 years. It’s just not going to happen that way. It’s all about the progression of the game, progression of the plays, just how it happens.”

Kelce may get things right later because he’s too good not to, but it’s concerning at the moment. Through three games this season, Kelce has tallied eight receptions on 12 targets, 69 yards, zero touchdowns, and averages 8.9 yards per reception.

It’s been a struggle for Kelce thus far, but the opposite can be said for the Chiefs. They currently sit at 3-0 and are ranked fourth in points per game (25.0), 14th in yards per game (328.0), 15th in yards per play (5.4), and sixth in touchdowns per game (2.7).

Kelce has been doing this for a long time, and sometimes, when a player gets older, they need these first few games of the season to get right.

Let’s not kid ourselves; it was a busy summer for Kelce, as he was all over the world doing commercials and being with his superstar girlfriend, Taylor Swift.

His body needs some time to adjust, just like we saw last season. As long as he stays healthy, Kelce will be just fine moving forward, as he and Patrick Mahomes have chemistry like no other.
