Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey is inactive for Sunday’s rivalry matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. The rookie has been dealing with knee and shoulder injuries, which put his game status in question.
McConkey was a limited participant all three days of practice this week, and thus, his availability could’ve gone either way.
McConkey emerged as quarterback Justin Herbert’s top option this season. The Georgia product leads the Chargers with 815 receiving yards.

As star running back J.K. Dobbins landed on injured reserve, the Chargers’ already limited offensive weapons dwindled even more.
The Bolts offense is coming off arguably its worst performance off the season in the team’s ugly win over the Atlanta Falcons. The unit will try to find rhythm once again, but with McConkey inactive, it’s a tough task.
The Chargers and Chiefs have already faced off once this season in Week 4 at SoFi Stadium. Kansas City came out with a 17-10 victory; however, it is worthy to note, Herbert was dealing with a severe ankle injury.
But the Chargers have a second chance to make a statement. What would a triumph at Arrowhead mean for the Chargers? Offensive lineman Rashawn Slater chimed in.
“They’ve been dominating the division for so long, obviously, so it would matter and it would mean something to us,” Slater said of beating the Chiefs, via the team transcript.
Veteran defensive star Khalil Mack also said why the Week 14 matchup is so important to the Chargers.
“It would mean we’re headed in the right direction,” he said. “Trying to get to the big dance is the goal and the mission we’re all on, so that would mean we’re headed in the right direction against a championship-caliber team.”
Although the Chiefs won the first matchup, offensive coordinator Greg Roman is optimistic things will be different this time around.
“The second [division] game is always different from the first,” he said.
