An eight-year-old rescue cat from Randolph, New Jersey has left people in stitches after she had a furious reaction to her own tail.
In a video on TikTok with more than 8.9 million views, Tulip delighted the internet as she furiously bit at her own flicking tail.
“I do a lot of animal rescue from inner-city shelters and the streets of Newark, East Orange, and Paterson. I rescued Tulip from an inner-city shelter after she had been sitting in a small cage for three months. Her owner left her there at the age of six, so she’s eight years old now,” Gina DiCaprio told Newsweek.
While the anger at her tail is hilarious, it is also a symptom of an anxiety issue that she has suffered with for some time.
Tulip’s journey to finding a loving home wasn’t easy.
“I had her in my foster care for almost a year, and no one wanted to adopt her because of her anxiety issues,” DiCaprio said. “I decided to keep her because I love her more than anything, and I understand her anxiety. I take her to one of the best vets in NJ, and she is on anxiety meds for chasing her tail.”
According to DiCaprio, Tulip’s tail-chasing behavior is a regular occurrence, especially when she feels ignored.
“She chases her tail and gets a bit crazy when I am on the phone or not paying enough attention to her,” DiCaprio laughed. “Once I give her the anxiety meds, she calms down within a half hour. She has NEVER bit her tail aggressively. She just takes her frustration out on it.”
In the comments, people reacted to Tulip’s tail fury.
“I feel you TuTu…. I too get angry when parts of my body don’t cooperate,” said one viewer, while another TikToker said: “Finally found a cat I can relate with.”
A different viewer quipped: “When you’ve had a bad day and the tail’s attitude is the last straw.”
But not all the feedback was positive in the comments. DiCaprio acknowledged that a few commenters criticized her care for Tulip, suggesting she needed more help with her anxiety.
“There have been some haters who have commented that I do not take care of her, which is absolutely false!, DiCaprio said. “Tulip is so spoiled and loved, and she makes my fiance and I laugh daily. We have so much joy and laughter in our lives that we post funny videos to make people laugh and smile.”
