Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Bowden Francis had himself a day against the Los Angeles Angels. He almost no-hit the Angels, taking the bid into the 9th inning.
Angels outfielder Taylor Ward led off the 9th inning with a home run to break things up. Francis left the game to a standing ovation from the supportive Toronto crowd.
He wasn’t able to become only the second pitcher in Blue Jays history to record the feat. Pitcher Dave Stieb recorded the first-ever no-hitter in Toronto’s history back in Sept. 1990.
Bowden entered te day with a record of 6-3 and an ERA of 4.38 for the season. He had struck out 58 batters over 63.2 innings of work.
