The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to add to their rotation, and one of their possibilities is to steal a player from their division rival, the Boston Red Sox.
Jon Heyman is reporting there are many teams interested in signing Nick Pivetta, and the Blue Jays have their eyes all over the Canadian pitcher.
Pivetta appeared in 27 games and made 26 starts in 2024 for the Red Sox. He threw 145 2/3 innings and posted a 4.14 ERA.

The Blue Jays have spent much of the offseason so far trying to acquire bats. They were involved until the end in the pursuit of Juan Soto, and Cody Bellinger as well. However, the Blue Jays know pitching also needs to be addressed.
This past season was the first for Pivetta back into the mindset of pitching every five days. In 2023, he split time between the bullpen and the rotation. His versatility is attracting a lot of teams in free agency.
At the end of the 2024 season, the Red Sox offered him a $21.05 million qualifying offer, which Pivetta declined. It’s clear Pivetta is in search of a multiple-year deal.
He has spent the last five seasons in Boston both as a starter and a reliever. The Red Sox don’t want to see him go, but they certainly don’t want a division rival to get their hands on him.
Since 2023, Pivetta has a 30% strikeout rate, which is one of the best in baseball. His ability to strike out players with ease adds to his attractiveness to the Blue Jays.
