Heavyweight and co-promoter Kem Ljungquist (17-0) overcame a broken nose and many hard hooks from Greek opponent Marios Kollias (11-3-1) and won a majority decision after a hard-fought 10-rounder in the headliner of Rng*Sde’s promotion at the KB-Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark.
It was scored a too wide 98-92 (twice) and 95-95 for the Dane. BoxingScene’s scorecard read 96-94 for Kollias, who had his opponent hurt in the sixth but couldn’t follow up as Lungquist managed to hold on and that was something he got away with a lot in this fight, with the referee looking on.
Ljungquist’s nose was broken and cut early, giving him problems throughout the fight, but he showed a big heart in fighting through the pain – and was allowed to hold, and that made the difference.
Ahmad El Ahmad (4-0) won the vacant Danish featherweight title when Michael Nielsen (7-5) was retired by his corner and didn’t come out for the fifth round of a scheduled eight-rounder. El Ahmad dominated the fight all the way while Nielsen, as brave as they come, kept trying but was stunned in every round.
In a gross mismatch, lightweight prospect Elias Idrissi (3-0) knocked out much smaller Bosnian Mehmedalija Suljic (3-11-2) at 0:30 of the first round. Sulijic tried to move away but was caught by a right hand to the body and went over and out.
It was just another day in the office for Slovakian super middle veteran Pawol Garaj (8-44-4) and he went four rounds against debuting Danish light heavy Amre Allman. It was scored 40-36 on all cards and no one got hurt.
Heavyweight Gustav Thorsen (2-0) had no problems against Bosnian Demir Gulamic (6-9-2) and won with a stoppage in the second round. Gulamic was down in the first and twice in the second before it was stopped 44 seconds into the round.
Former amateur star Denys Pesotskyy (2-0) had to work hard against Swedish debutant Mohammed Al-Maki, who gave it all he had but lost by scores of 40-36 on all cards. Al-Maki was cut and bled from the nose but kept coming. Pesotskyy represented Ukraine as an amateur.
In the show opener British super welter Emmanuel Zion (5-1) stopped Spain-based Nicaraguan veteran Reynaldo Mora (7-80-3) in the second of a scheduled six-rounder. It was one way traffic all the way in this one.
