Television host Bill Maher on Friday criticized Bret Baier over the Fox News host’s recent interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.
During the latest episode of his HBO program Real Time With Bill Maher, the comedian made derogatory comments about Fox News before insulting Baier.
Maher said there’s “tough journalism,” but Baier was “a huge a******.”
Democratic presidential nominee Harris took part in an interview with Baier on Wednesday that became contentious at times. During the interview, Harris discussed immigration, transgender healthcare and said Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump had “talked about turning the American military on the American people.”
The interview was Harris’ first with Fox News since becoming the Democratic nominee, and Maher addressed her appearance during his opening monologue on Friday.
“She went on Fox News this week, they were fair. They asked her the same question they ask every guest, ‘Don’t you just hate Kamala Harris?'” Maher said.
Maher then turned his attention to Baier.
“Do you know this guy? I must say I had him pegged wrong. I’d always heard about him. I don’t watch Fox News that much, so I didn’t know,” Maher said. “They kept saying he was the most legitimate journalist on Fox News.”
He added, “No, actually, he was a huge a******.”
Newsweek reached out to representatives for Fox News via email late Friday for comment.
Maher continued by saying he wasn’t making the comment in a “partisan way” before repeating the insult.
“So, you know, being the most legitimate journalist on Fox is a little like being the hottest person in the dollar store,” Maher said.
Maher was previously somewhat critical of Harris during her first interview after launching her presidential campaign.
Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, appeared together for a pre-recorded conversation with CNN host Dana Bash in late August.
“It’s a very exciting time of year. It’s Labor Day. This is always, they say, this is when the race really starts, and it really did. We finally had an interview last night with Kamala Harris,” Maher said on an episode of his HBO show.
“Not just her, with Tim Walz, her emotional support VP,” he joked.
Soon after the CNN interview aired, Trump reacted to it on his Truth Social platform by writing one word: “BORING!!!”
“Good. I’d love some boring,” Maher responded on his show. “That’s what I want in this ticket. It’s Harris/Walz, not Deadpool/Wolverine.”
