BILL Belichick provided an interesting answer regarding the NFL GOAT conversation while live with Pat McAfee.
Even though he coached Tom Brady for 20 years, Belichick gave a vote of confidence for a different quarterback as the GOAT.
Belichick made his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, and the conversation surrounded Patrick Mahomes’ greatness.
During the conversation, McAfee made a quip about Mahomes being on track to become the GOAT.
“That’s why he’s already being described as the next one… the GOAT,” McAfee said.
“He seemingly has all the traits you want in a leading quarterback.”
Even though he spent two decades with Brady, the quarterback most people consider the greatest of all time, Belichick gave a simple answer in response to the question.
“Yep,” he said.
Belichick went on to give some more high praise to Mahomes, complimenting his abilities as a leader.
“Patrick Mahomes has the attitude of a championship and it jumps off the screen,” he said.
“The Chiefs won a big game and he’s talking about how much better they need to be.”
Fans were quick to join Belichick in the praise of Mahomes and shared their thoughts on social media.
“After Brady left you know he’s a Mahomes fan. Brady is too for that matter lol,” one fan said.
“Doesn’t matter Tom himself has said he’s the best QB in the league now and the haterz just ignore the fact,” another fan said.
“Love to see Bill Belichick n even Brady recognize Mahomes greatness cuz their fanbase definitely doesn’t! Winners recognize Winners,” a third fan said.
“Patrick is the ultimate competitor. Chiefs fans are lucky,” a fourth fan said.
Comparing Mahomes and Brady as the GOATs isn’t an unreasonable thing to do.
The Tom Brady domino effect
Tom Brady will take his seat in Fox’s top NFL announce team alongside Kevin Burkhardt.
And his arrival at the network has set off a domino effect with every other announcer moving down one spot.
That means Fox’s NFL coverage in 2024 will feature entirely new broadcast pairings.
Greg Olsen, who previously worked alongside Burkhardt, will now be part of the No. 2 announce team with Joe Davis.
The other Fox pairings for 2024 are:
- Adam Amin-Mark Sanchez
- Kenny Albert-Jon Vilma
- Kevin Kugler-Daryl Johnston
- Chris Myers-Mark Schlereth
In fact, Mahomes is on pace to be a better player over his career than Brady was.
Through their first six seasons as starters, Mahomes has more yards and touchdowns, and less interceptions.
Mahomes had 28,140 yards, 219 touchdowns, and 62 interceptions compared to Brady’s 21,558 yards, 147 touchdowns, and 78 interceptions.
The one thing that is yet to be seen is how longevity will come into play.
Mahomes is 29 years old, and will need to play 16 more seasons to retire at the same age 45 that Brady did.
Even if he plays just 10 more seasons, Mahomes is likely on track to be the greatest of all time.
