Bill Belichick Makes Strong Declaration During UNC Introduction

How does that sound?

It’s probably not something many people around Chapel Hill, N.C., expected a couple of weeks ago, but things move fast in the world of college football. Belichick arrived at Kenan Memorial Stadium donning a blue suit and an argyle tie on Thursday — a fitting look as he was introduced to folks as the new face of UNC.

How long is this thing going to last, though?

Belichick’s commitment to UNC seems real, but many have questioned whether it outweighs his desire to eventually return to the NFL. Belichick even had his feet put to the fire almost immediately and passed the test with flying colors.

“I didn’t come here to leave,” Belichick said rather emphatically. “… I feel like doing it a long time. I’m good to go.”

Can we believe that statement? It’s tough to say.

Belichick has always been able to turn on the charm when needed, but his arrival at UNC provided some pretty genuine moments. We wouldn’t be wrong to keep an antenna up, but what is the possibility that he even has an opportunity to return to the NFL?

Do they want him? Does he want them? Is the divorce too much to overcome?

We can’t tell for sure, but the man himself sure wants us to believe that his immediate and long-term future is at UNC.
