Social media footage seemed to capture multiple gunshots and students running away from the scene.

Another clip showed terrified students crouched behind cars to protect themselves from any shots.

Cops were called to reports of shots fired at one of the university’s apartment complexes on Sunday morning.

The victim was identified as a “non-university individual,” the institution told The New York Post.

“Several others including Tuskegee University students were injured and are receiving treatment at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery,” according to the university.

Hours before the fatal shooting, Alumni Stadium, which has an official capacity of 10,000, was packed with almost 47,300 people for the university’s homecoming football game against Miles College.

The investigation into the shooting is being led by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and authorities have now “secured the scene”.

“The university is in the process of completing student accountability and notifying parents,” Tuskegee University said.

“Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”

East of Montgomery, Alabama, Tuskegee University is roughly 39 miles away.

The number of shooters and whether any were taken into custody is not yet known.

Last year, school administrators had to stop classes last year after a shooting during a “unauthorised party” at the West Commons left four people injured, the New York Post reported.

One student accused university administrators of allowing guests to enter the building without being inspected and of causing safety problems.

“Them saying that the party was unauthorized to kind of switch the blame unto us, it’s crazy because even if it was an authorized party, with the security measures we have in place, the same thing could have happened,” Mechel Winters told the outlet.

“I just expected it to be a safe place because we are on campus, and there should be security measures in place,” she said.

Sunday’s incident comes after a series of horror shootings at homecoming events last month.
