Ariana Grande underwent a lie detector test for Vanity Fair alongside her Wicked co-star, Cynthia Erivo. Some of the questions the 31-year-old pop star had to face were about her own!
“Did you ever get work done to make yourself feel more ‘Popular’?” asked Erivo, 37, subtly referencing one of Wicked’s most famous songs, “Popular.” Grande seemed excited to finally have a chance to address the rumors about procedures she may have had. “Thank goodness,” she said, which may have been another allusion to a Wicked musical number. Grande denied having had a nose job and laughed at the idea of a boob job. “Can you imagine?” she asked.
The “Side to Side” singer said she hadn’t had a face lift “yet,” but she was “open” to the idea. “I’ve had fillers in various places and botox, but I stopped like four years ago,” she told her co-star and the lie detector test administrator. All her answers were deemed “truthful” by the lie detector, much to Grande’s delight. “This is the happiest day of my life!” she beamed before exclaiming, “Take that, you YouTube people!”
The “Into You” songstress also said that she was “in full support” of whatever cosmetic procedures people wanted to have. “Whatever makes women, men, non-gender-conforming people feel beautiful should be allowed! Why do we care?” she asked Erivo.
The pop star tested the lie detector by saying she had had a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift). Her “yes” was flagged by the machine as being “deceptive.” “No,” she went on to tell the The Color Purple actress. “That wouldn’t work for me, I don’t think that’s my thing.” Erivo agreed, and Grande added, “and I’m ok with that!”
The Wicked co-leads shared giggles throughout the video, and both said they’d been looking forward to doing a Vanity Fair lie detector interview. During Erivo’s time under the lie detector test, she revealed that she had “absolutely” forgotten lyrics onstage, as well as some details about her friendship with Grande.
