AN AMERICAN Airlines flight traveling overseas was forced to divert the plane midflight after their bathroom overflowed.
The flight heading to Spain, which left from Texas, had to stop in New York abruptly.
On Wednesday at around 10:30 pm, an American Airlines flight was heading to Madrid from Dallas.
However, midflight, the airline had to land at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York after the bathroom on board overflowed, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
American Airlines claimed the disruption was due to a “maintenance issue.”
Once the plane safely landed, the airline paid for hotel accommodations for the affected guests.

The customers were safely put on a flight to their destination the following day.
Following the event, an American Airlines spokesperson released an emailed statement.
“On Aug. 7, American Airlines flight 36 with service from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Madrid (MAD) diverted to New York (JFK) due to a maintenance issue,” they shared.
“The aircraft landed normally and is scheduled to re-depart [Thursday] evening on a new aircraft.
“We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for the inconvenience.”
The FAA is still investigating the issue.
The U.S. Sun has reached out to the FAA for comment.
SPOILED SICK
The American Airlines diversion comes after another popular airline was forced to stop its plane.
In July, a Delta Air Lines plane headed toward Amsterdam from Detroit had to stop at John F. Kennedy Airport after multiple passengers fell ill.
According to a Delta spokesperson told The Daily Mail, the passengers were served spoiled food.
“Delta flight 136 was traveling from Detroit, Michigan to The Netherlands when it was diverted to JFK Airport early this morning after it was discovered that a portion of the in-flight meal service had been spoiled,” the spokesperson said.
“This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay in their travels.”
After the flight landed, medics met the plane on arrival and provided aid to nearly 25 passengers and crew members alike.
“There were 24 aided cases upon landing,” a Port Authority spokesperson told the outlet.
“Including 10 members of the flight crew and 14 passengers, all of whom declined to receive medical attention.”
After the flight was deplaned, customers were provided hotel rooms and rebooked on another flight to their destination.
