Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Branded ‘Congressional Kardashian’ by Megyn Kelly

Megyn Kelly has criticized Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after her speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday, saying the New York representative wants to be a star and comparing her to members of the Kardashian family.

Ocasio-Cortez, who is also known by the nickname AOC, criticized former President Donald Trump throughout her speech, while highlighting Vice President Kamala Harris’ promises to working-class Americans.

At the event in Chicago, the progressive lawmaker took the stage along with several party leaders and praised Harris as a “leader with a real commitment to a better future for working families.” Early in her speech, she thanked Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, for their vision. She also thanked President Joe Biden for his leadership.

While Ocasio-Cortez received cheers on the night, Kelly was less than impressed, writing on X, formerly Twitter: “All AOC wants is to be a star. Congressional Kardashian.”

At the time of writing, the former Fox News anchor’s post had been viewed 474,300 times. Newsweek contacted spokespeople for Kelly and Ocasio-Cortez for comment via email outside normal business hours.

Kelly is no stranger to sharing her opinions online, and she is often critical of members of the Democratic Party. She has also previously compared Ocasio-Cortez to the reality TV family.

In 2022, she dubbed the congresswoman a “moron” and a “Kardashian in Congress” after Ocasio-Cortez called for impeaching Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh following their decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The lawmaker alleged that they had lied under oath during their Senate confirmation hearings.

On Newsmax’s The Balance, Eric Bolling—who has since left the right-leaning channel after three years as a prime-time host—asked Kelly to respond to Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks.

“Well, I’ll distinguish between the two because I think AOC is a moron,” Kelly said after Bolling mentioned Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.

She continued: “I think Elizabeth Warren is smart—she’s ideological and not necessarily aligned with you or with myself—but I think AOC is not that smart, and she really just wants to be a star.

“She’s sort of a Kardashian in Congress. I guarantee you she hasn’t read the decision, and I guarantee you she has no understanding of what substantive due process is or the history of any of what she’s talking about.”

On Monday, Ocasio-Cortez told a fired-up crowd that they needed to help Harris win the upcoming election against Trump. Harris is expected to formally accept the Democratic nomination in a speech on Thursday, after securing enough delegates to become the party’s nominee.

“Chicago, we have to help her win because we know that Donald Trump would sell this country for a dollar if it meant lining his own pockets and greasing the palms of his Wall Street friends,” she said.

She continued: “And I, for one, am tired of hearing about how a two-bit union buster thinks of himself as more of a patriot than the woman who fights every single day to lift working people out from under the boots of greed trampling on our way of life.

“The truth is, Don, you cannot love this country if you only fight for the wealthy and big business. To love this country is to fight for its people. All people.”

In July, after Biden suspended his reelection campaign, Ocasio-Cortez was quick to endorse Harris, posting on X the day Harris kick-started her presidential bid: “Kamala Harris will be the next President of the United States. I pledge my full support to ensure her victory in November.”

The New York congresswoman has also compared supporting Trump’s reelection campaign to a vote for “fascism.”
