On the Dec. 11 episode of AEW Dynamite, fans were ecstatic to see former AEW World Women’s Champion Toni Storm make her triumphant return.
In the main event, AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May had just successfully defended her title against Mina Shirakawa.
While May was celebrating, she was interrupted by Storm who was wearing her classic gear instead of her more recent “Timeless” persona.
Naturally, this has fans clamoring for a rematch between Storm and May, who won her title off of Storm at All-In this past year.
Instead of this, it has been announced that Storm’s first match back in the promotion will be on AEW Rampage with Harley Cameron.
While they are both talented wrestlers and will put on a good match, this still has fans confused and, according to reports, backstage personnel upset.
According to a report from Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, per PWMania, people backstage are “appalled” that Storm is being booked for Rampage instead of Dynamite.
“Do you know how many people I talked to in AEW yesterday, and every last single one of them, ‘aghast’ may not even be the right word, ‘appalled’ that Toni Storm’s return is on Rampage,” Alvarez said.
“Meanwhile leave it to the fans, leave it to the wackos, this is a great idea. He’s got to give his fans a worthwhile show those last three weeks of the canceled show. Meanwhile, there are actually other shows that aren’t going to be canceled. Lke God forbid, we put this return on Collision or on Dynamite or on Worlds End.”

Alvarez elaborated on the situation, revealing that AEW president Tony Khan makes the final decision, sometimes despite what he’s advised.
“I swear to god this is true, you could have had 200 people lined up outside Tony Khan’s door last night, one by one, all 200 of them could have gone in there and said, ‘This idea is stupid,'” Alvarez said.
“Do you wanna know what’d happen at the end of the night? He’d have still done it because that’s what happens. People argue things with him every single week, and at the end of the day, he does whatever he wants.”
In the end, the news is positive: Toni Storm has returned to AEW. She’s not just one of the best talents in the company but in all of professional wrestling. No matter where she performs, it’s going to be timeless.
