In an interview in July, Hailey opened up about why she initially decided to hide her pregnancy for six months, admitting it was to protect her privacy. “I probably could have [hidden] it until the end,” she said, “but I didn’t enjoy the stress of not being able to enjoy my pregnancy outwardly. I felt like I was hiding this big secret, and it didn’t feel good. I wanted the freedom to go out and live my life.”
A year before her pregnancy announcement, Hailey had already expressed her reservations about becoming a mother, which also stemmed from privacy concerns. “I want kids so bad, but I get scared,” she said in an interview in May 2023. “It’s enough that people say things about my husband or my friends. I can’t imagine having to confront people saying things about a child.”
She once again touched upon those feelings in the July 2024 interview, admitting her relationship with Justin has been subject to criticism from day one, which has obviously affected her greatly. “People have made me feel so bad about my relationship since day one,” Hailey said.
“It’s like people don’t want to believe that we’re happy,” she continued. “I used to try to act like it hurts less and less. I’ve tried to think that you get used to it at a certain point, that this is what’s going to be said, and this is how people are going to be. But I realize that it doesn’t actually ever hurt any less.” (Hailey had previously shut down divorce rumorus in March 2024, which we now know was during her pregnancy.)

Aside from quashing rumours left and right and standing up for her relationship, in the leadup to the baby’s birth, Hailey leaned heavily into maternity wear, opting for sheer gowns by Jacquemus, casual overalls, Phoebe Philo capes, and, of course, her signature blazers. Now that the baby is here, we can’t wait to see their mommy-baby matching styles. Congratulations again to Justin and Hailey Bieber!
