EXCLUSIVE: Los Angeles Dodgers star Markus “Mookie” Betts is surprising his father with a home makeover in an upcoming edition of CBS‘ Secret Celebrity Renovation.
The special episode of the reality series is set to air on September 20, with Nischelle Turner returning as host. The design team includes home improvement contractor and television personality Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano and interior designer Sabrina Soto.
Together, the team will help Betts, fresh off the heels of his return to the Dodgers starting lineup, trade in his baseball bat for a sledgehammer as he returns to his hometown of Nashville, TN to surprise his father, Willie, with a much-needed home renovation.
According to CBS’ description for the episode, this is not the first time that Betts has tried to help his dad with a bit of home improvement, but his father has always declined up until this point.
“I really just want to give him a nice living area. Just kinda upgrade him a little bit,” the MLB player said while filming the episode, per CBS. “He’s comfortable here and he’s not good with change but he’s getting older now and his house definitely needs an upgrade.”
The episode will also show Betts as he takes a trip down memory lane, visiting his old high school and reuniting with his former baseball coach.
Secret Celebrity Renovation gives celebrities the opportunity to show their gratitude for a meaningful person in their hometowns through surprise renovations. Previously, the show has featured Paula Abdul, Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, Annaleigh Ashford, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, Niecy Nash, Shaquille O’Neal, Anthony Ramos, Nicole Scherzinger, JB Smoove, Max Thieriot and more.
The series is produced by JUMA Entertainment. Robert Horowitz, Brady Connell and Peter DeVita serve as executive producers.
