One Antiques Roadshow guest recently learned that their grandparents had owned a valuable bronze lamp.
The lamp, shaped like a model of an ornate building, has only a small space for a light.
But despite its limited functionality, its quality and material make it worth around $1,000.
THE LAMP
When a man brought in the lamp, he said it had been sitting in a box for a long time.
It came from the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933.
He said it was a wedding or anniversary gift that he’d inherited.
It appears to be a model of a mosque, featuring a praying figure.
The appraiser said it was a Vienna bronze lamp.
“You have the largest one I’ve ever seen,” he said.
He said the lamp is painted with oil paints, which is rare for bronze figures.
“Basically when you’re at the top of a particular market, the market’s very strong,” he said. “So when you have a piece like this that is such a massive scale and has such a great presence, that’s going to bring top dollar.”
It’s worth around $10,000.
The shocked owner said “that’s phenomenal.”
It’s unclear whether he ended up selling the lamp.
