The Game Awards is well underway, with plenty of big announcements already made — including the announcement of The Witcher 4 with Ciri as the main protagonist. Some of these have been expected, but one unexpected announcement is a sequel to a game from Obsidian Entertainment.
Obsidian and Microsoft have announced The Outer Worlds 2, the sequel to the 2019 action RPG that channeled a lot of Fallout vibes. The new game is said to be two times as big, having taken three times as long to develop, and it’s looking pretty good.
Fans of the original game will be pleased to know that the sequel’s signature art style and satirical humor seems to have been kept intact, and it looks like there’s quite a few expansions to the gameplay, which is a welcome addition.
The Outer Worlds 2 is set to be released in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, which is a bit of a surprise for multiple reasons.
The first reason is that Obsidian is already releasing another game in 2025, Avowed, which is a more traditional fantasy action RPG along the lines of Skyrim. It’s set in the world of Pillars of Eternity, and it looks to be absolutely massive.
The second reason is that it’s coming to PS5 on day one, which is a curiosity for an Xbox-published game. Of course, it’ll also be on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass PC on day one, too, so players won’t have to fork out the full price to play it on those platforms.
