What To Know About Prospects Red Sox Reportedly Traded For Garrett Crochet

The Red Sox reportedly acquired the biggest fish on the trade market, but it didn’t come cheap.

Boston are finalizing a deal for left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox, as first reported by the Boston Globe’s Julian McWilliams. ESPN’s Jeff Passan and others confirmed the report.

The Red Sox reportedly will part with catcher Kyle Teel, outfielder Braden Montgomery, infielder Chase Meidroth and right-hander Wikelman Gonzalez. Three of the four (Teel, Montgomery, Meidroth) ranked inside the organization’s top 10 prospects, per Sox Prospects.

Teel, a first-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, ranked as the franchise’s No. 4 prospect and the No. 25 prospect in baseball, per MLB.com. The 22-year-old catcher spent the 2024 season in Double-A Portland before concluding in Triple-A Worcester. He hit .288 with a .819 OPS in 505 plate appearances last season, hitting 13 home runs with 78 RBIs.

Montgomery was the 12th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. Sox Prospects viewed the 21-year-old outfielder as the organization’s No. 5 prospect, and he is ranked No. 54 in MLB.

Gonzalez represents the lone pitcher of the group. He spent the 2024 campaign in Double-A Portland where he recorded a 4.73 ERA in 83 2/3 innings.

Boston kept each of its top three prospects — Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer — within the Red Sox organization. Top pitching prospect Luis Perales (No. 6 on Sox Prospects) also was not dealt.
