It flew round the 12.9-mile layout in a total of 6 minute 57.685 seconds.

The extraordinary time was 2.2 second faster than the Porsche 911 GT3 which only just managed to get under 7-minute mark with 6 minutes 59.93 seconds.

However the Mustang didn’t quite manage to catch the Porsche once it had the Manthey Racing Performance Kit – this hammered the speed time down to 6 minutes 49.328 seconds.

Other strong contenders include the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series which achieved 6 minutes 48.047 seconds.

Also the previous-generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS modified by Manthey which raced round in 6 min 43.300 seconds, which the Mustang didn’t quite manage to tackle.

It also pales in comparison to the international road-car record-holder which goes to Mercedes-AMG One.

The hypercar made it round the 150,000-person capacity motorsports complex in 6 minutes 29.090 seconds.

In the hall of fame of Nürburgring laps, is the breathtakingly fast time of 5 minutes 19.546 seconds.

This was achieved by a Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo and was the fastest time ever recorded round the track.

Ford’s GTD Mustang uses a 5.2-liter V8, generating a power ranging from 500hp to a whopping 815hp.

Ford’s discontinued Escort MK1 will be revived in WEEKS with ‘all-new’ specs – & inspiration from iconic racing machine

This makes it officially the most powerful Ford ever created.

It’s closest competitor might be the the 720hp Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, but this is still more than 100hp outside the Mustang.

The motor includes an array of exciting modifications including an active-valve exhaust system and a carbon-fibre driveshaft.

In terms of its frame, the car is very different a normal Mustang GT as it has front suspension and advanced shock absorbers.

These changes have resulted in the vehicle sitting 40mm lower and 100mm wider than a regular Mustang.

Finishing off the look is a bold body kit inspired by the Mustang GT3 race car, featuring expanded wheel arches, air ducts for the engine and rear brakes, and a large rear spoiler.

The aggressive exterior contrasts the suedes, leather, and distinguished interior which come fitted with a digital dashboard and flat-bottomed steering wheel.

There is a long selection process to get your hands on one of these cars and sadly applications for Ford Mustang GTD have now closed.

Despite umpteen thousands of people putting their name down, according to British car show Top Gear, Ford were only planning to build 1,000 examples.

What is the Nurburgring Nordschleife?

The Nurburgring Nordschleife, often called “The Green Hell,” is a renowned circuit in Germany. Opened in 1927, it features a challenging 20.8 km (12.9 mi) layout with 154 turns, winding through the Eifel mountains.

Initially built as a test and racing track, it has hosted numerous iconic races, including the German Grand Prix. Today, it remains a legendary venue for motorsport events, manufacturer testing, and public driving sessions.

Over the years, there have been many accidents and deaths at the track – even during public sessions. Jeremy Clarkson noted in Top Gear in 2004 that “over the years this track has claimed over 200 lives”.

Perhaps most famously, F1 champion Niki Lauda was left severely burned and near death after a crash at the circuit in 1976. His survival and remarkable comeback from the accident is considered one of the great tales of motorsport history.
