AMERICANS could get their hands on $1,000 monthly payments from a new program with no strings attached.

A certain group of students could get their share of a huge $3 million pot of cash each month.

The BOOST program will provide monthly $1,000 payments to some people looking to start careers in health.

This initiative will see eligible students receive 12 payments throughout the course of a year.

This guaranteed basic income program will be available to 250 students across four Los Angeles Community College District campuses.

These include East LA College, LA City College, LA Trade-Technical College, and LA Southwest College.

This program has been intended to widen the gap between wages, financial aid, and student expenses, the LACCD said.

The huge $3 million pot of cash has made this the largest GBI program among community colleges.

This program was set up by the Los Angeles Community College District after three charities came forward to donate money.

ELIGIBILITY

Students at either of the four LACCD colleges must be pursuing a health-related degree to qualify for the cash.

They must also qualify as low-income by L.A. County standards.

Students looking to benefit from this free cash must also prove that a lack of money has affected their ability to study and pay college-associated costs.

250 students were selected to claim the free money and the first set of funds were sent out in November.

College officials added that these students should have received their first $1,000 by Thanksgiving.

Administrators behind the program said it would allow students in need to take care of their basic needs, help their families, and get their degrees, according to LAist.

The interim chancellor for the LACCD said: “They face financial insecurity, many of them having to make a choice between going to school or getting a job [and] many are the sole providers for their families.”

EXTRA CASH

Americans could also be eligible for free money through different programs, The U.S. Sun has previously reported.

Checks worth thousands of dollars have been sent to some California families.

A new United Way Bay Area program has been launched in Alameda County.

UWBA works to fight poverty in the Bay Area and announced the first guaranteed basic income pilot program last month.

100 families have already received a $3,000 deposit with other regular payments scheduled for a whole year.
