Hoda Kotb once again proved that although she is one of the most popular faces on morning television, she is still so relatable when it comes to parenting. The Today broadcaster made a shocking confession about motherhood after moving to the suburbs with her kids.
During an episode of Today on November 14, Hoda, 60, revealed that she recently made a big purchase after moving into her new home.
“Guys, I’m getting a minivan! A Toyota Sienna!” she said during a conversation with cohost Jenna Bush Hager. “I’m so excited. I have wanted a Toyota Sienna for a long time. You push the buttons, click! And the doors go woosh.”
“And, let me explain, me and a minivan is like a dream,” she excitedly said. “I’ve wanted it and I haven’t had it. Also, I am sometimes carpool mom. I can only take three kids because there’s no other room. Not anymore! I cannot wait for it.”
A few days later, she gave fans an update on her new life in the suburbs with her minivan. She previously lived in a New York City apartment with her children.
“Have I told you I love my minivan? I love it so much,” Hoda remarked during an episode of the show on Wednesday, November 20.
“Have you [gone] in there to hide from your children yet?” Jenna, 42, hilariously asked her costar.
And Hoda was not afraid to admit that she has gone into the minivan for some alone time, telling everyone that she “cased out my own house. I sat outside and I didn’t go in … But I was in the car. So I was casing and waiting.”
Hoda explained the “minute I go in, I can’t do anything. I was doing my thing and then I went in later.”
Jenna agreed that it’s important for moms to have alone time, even if it means sitting in the car for a couple of extra minutes.
“You’ll find yourself sitting in cars, listening to music, having just some alone time,” the former first daughter said. “And wait, you’re like, ‘OK, maybe just one more song.’”
“Sometimes you need that time,” Hoda explained. “You reset. And then you’re ready.”
The NBC personality shares daughters Haley and Hope with ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman. Jenna is a mom to kids Mila, Poppy and Hal, whom she shares with husband Henry Hager.
Last month, Hoda got to celebrate her first Halloween while living in the suburbs. And she reflected on how her kids were adjusting to their new neighborhood and new school.
“We’re in a place where Hope is thriving,” she told People, referencing her daughter Hope’s illness in 2023 that led her to land in the NICU. “She’s improving, we’re watching her, and I think as time goes on, we’ll have a better handle on it, but we’re already seeing great differences.”
“We really have excellent care; I have people helping us out. I feel like she is finding steady footing,” the mom of two added, reflecting on how the move has been beneficial for everyone.
