Anne Hathaway will play a titular part in Verity, the latest movie adaptation of author Colleen Hoover’s popular novels. After the huge hype around the movie rendition of Hoover’s It Ends With Us – starring Blake Lively – we’re very intrigued.
2025 will be an exciting year for her – although, let’s be honest, she’s had a stellar year this year with smash rom-com The Idea of You and thriller Mother’s Instinct – as she’s set to star in “epic melodrama” Mother Mary alongside Michaela Coel and will appear opposite Ewan McGregor and Maisy Stella in sci-fi film Flowervale Street. Princess Diaries 3 is also in the pipeline, guys – where Anne is set to reprise her iconic role as Mia Thermopolis. There’s nothing this woman can’t do.
However, there’s been something of a divided response to the news. While fans of Hoover’s novels are excited, others have suggested that participating in an adaptation of Verity is somehow beneath Anne’s station. One fan tweeted: “You are queen of Genovia. You do not need to stoop to these levels”.
Let’s get one thing straight – snobbery around certain films and actor’s role choices is not OK. Anne faced it when she joined the cast of The Idea of You. At the time, she spoke out about not wanting to be “pigeonholed”.
“I don’t want to be pigeonholed and don’t want to be placed in a box of what type of films I have to be making because of my age, gender and because I won an Oscar,” she said. “I want to have fun, dammit. It speaks to me.”

What is Verity about?
It’s definitely very Gone Girl vibes, from the sounds of the book’s synopsis.
Anne will play bestselling thriller author Verity Crawford, who becomes unable to finish the remaining books in her series after a “mysterious accident”. Her husband Jeremy recruits Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin, to step in and finish Verity’s books for her. However, all is not as it seems. When Ashleigh arrives at the Crawford estate, she discovers a secret, along with an unfinished manuscript that reveals shocking revelations about the family’s past. As she gets to know Verity’s husband and young son, Lowen begins to question what kind of woman Verity was – and whether the manuscript a work of fiction or something much darker.
Who will be in the Verity cast?
There’s no word yet on who will be joining Anne Hathaway on the cast of Verity, as it’s very early days. We can’t wait to see who will play Verity and the other members of the supporting cast.
