Macaulay Culkin’s Cabin Alone movie is not a real thing — and we need to have a serious talk with the people who think it is. Did you know that it’s possible to Photoshop together a fake movie poster? You can even add a cute little logo to make it look all official! Apparently, a lot of people don’t know about this newfangled photo editing software, because a recent (obviously) fake poster of an imagined Home Alone sequel has gone viral — and lots and lots and lots of people seem to think it’s real.
The Facebook post (which you can see here) has racked up over 135,000 likes in a week and there are countless comments of fans expressing their excitement. “This is amazing! Keep making these, we love all Home Alone movies!” one person wrote. “What???? Can’t wait,” another chimed in.
Is Cabin Alone a real movie?
Once again, no.
Our first clue? The Facebook “announcement” that started this whole thing posted by an unverified account called “YODA BBY ABY” that seemingly posts spoof sequel posters. And, yeah, we’re pretty sure Disney+ isn’t dropping its major press releases from an account called “YODA BBY ABY.”
Secondly, the poster is kind of obviously fake, people! The title logo font with the cheesy stock image of a cabin wedged in the middle? The very obvious editing around Culking and O’Hara? The fact that Culkin’s name is spelled wrong with a random capital letter in the middle??
Third clue. The movie description. It reads:
“NEW HOME ALONE!!! KEVIN AND HIS MOM!!!
This Christmas, Kevin McCallister and his mom arrive early to their family’s remote cabin, only to learn the rest of the family’s flight is delayed. When Marv and Harry target the supposedly empty cabin, Kevin and his mom join forces to defend it in the ultimate showdown. With snow-covered traps, outrageous pranks, and high-stakes holiday antics, they turn the quiet cabin into a thrilling battleground that’ll have you laughing and cheering. Get ready for a wild holiday adventure with Cabin Alone, streaming on Disney+ this December!”
Ok, it does sound kind of fun. To be honest, anything O’Hara does is a riot. But as fun as it may sound, it also sounds — well — completely and totally made up.
Will there ever be a Home Alone sequel with Macaulay Culkin and Catherine O’Hara?
Even though Millennials may have gotten used to getting sequels to iconic ’90s and 2000s films, unfortunately, we probably won’t see O’Hara and Culkin reprising their Home Alone characters any time soon.
