COSTCO has already started to limit the purchase of some merchandise flying off the shelves this holiday season.

Shoppers are already rushing to get deals ahead of Black Friday at the warehouse retailer, and one item is already going fast.

The Pokemon Five-Pack Assorted Mini Tins of trading cards are catching plenty of attention from members for $37.99.

Included with the package are five Pokemon Art Cards, Pokemon Stickers, four Promo Cards, and 10 TCG Booster Packs.

Many parents seem to be scooping up the Pokemon pack for their children ahead of Christmas — so much so that Costco has placed a purchase limit on them at select locations, per a thread on Reddit.

A customer took a snapshot of the section with the Pokemon Five-Pack Assorted Mini Tins and a highlighted, all-caps note on the sign read. “Limit 3.”

Those who bought three would pay about $113.97.

“My Costco doing the right thing,” they wrote.

A Costco employee also noted that the Pokemon packs at their store were going unbelievably fast, especially the red-packaged cards.

“Apparently the ones in the all-red packaging are in higher demand,” the staffer noted.

PUT IT ALL ON RED

“Anyone know why? We didn’t put a limit, our 1 pallet was smoked in 3 minutes.”

According to a collector who replied, the red-packaged Pokemon Assorted Mini Tins being sold at Costco contain “151 packs,” which are hard to find and were released in 2023.

The 151 packs were created as a nod to the original first decks from the 1990s.

“The blue boxes are from a set called Paldean Fates, which is not as popular, and is why they were left,” the collector added.

Another Costco member claimed some were scalping — buying and re-selling the red packages for more than twice the $37.99 price point.

Others were upset the limit wasn’t placed at their store.

Costco membership sharing guidelines

Costco has strict rules for membership use that shoppers must follow and they’ve been cracking down on offenders in recent years.

  • Primary Member Use: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. Sharing it for purchases is not allowed as the photo on the card must match the person using it.
  • Household Card: Each primary member can add one free household cardholder who lives at the same address. This person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
  • Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per visit to Costco. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by the member.
  • Authorized Cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who doesn’t reside at your address. They will receive their own card and can shop independently.

LIMIT LACK

“Saw people at opening this AM loading up – no limit at my Costco,” someone commented.

“Some ppl will visit the warehouse several times a day…” another wrote.

A third claimed one shopper bought all 151 packages at their Costco because there wasn’t a limit.

It’s unclear if Costco will implement a nationwide limit on the product at all of its 614 warehouses in the United States.

The U.S. Sun has contacted Costco for more information.

Costco has been preparing for the holidays for some time.

Discounts on Christmas trees were spotted by some shoppers back at the end of September.

Other displays for the holiday began even earlier, with a member crying out that it was still “105F outside.”
