Remember that fashion show we all loved watching? Well, it’s getting a makeover that we didn’t ask for! Project Runway, the show that originally had us glued to our screens for 16 seasons with Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn at the helm, is coming back next year. But here’s the twist – it’s got a whole new look and feel. We’ll have to wait a bit to find out who’ll be hosting and judging.
This show’s been on quite a journey, hasn’t it? From Bravo to Lifetime, then back to Bravo. Now, it’s found a new home on Freeform. Disney’s network struck a deal with Spyglass Media Group, the folks behind Project Runway. And get this – we’ll be able to catch new episodes on Disney+ and Hulu right after they air on Freeform. Talk about keeping up with the times!
It’s not the first time Project Runway has switched things up. Remember when Karlie Kloss and Christian Siriano (who won Season 4, by the way) took over from Klum and Gunn? Those two went off to do Making the Cut on Prime Video. The most recent season, number 20, had Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell, and Elaine Welteroth as judges. It’s like the show keeps reinventing itself, just like fashion!
This news comes at an interesting time for Freeform. They’re saying goodbye to some of their long-running teen shows like Good Trouble and grown-ish, and diving into more unscripted content. It’s like they’re growing up with their audience, you know?
“Project Runway is an iconic television juggernaut that perfectly complements the pop-culture spirit at Freeform,” Simran Sethi, the big boss at Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment, said on Thursday. “We are excited to welcome the original series to the Disney family and reignite the fanbase alongside Spyglass and Alfred Street, giving viewers the chance to once again share in discovering the next generation of exceptionally talented fashion designers.”
Gary Barber from Spyglass added, “For 20 seasons, Project Runway has captured viewers’ attention and cultivated a loyal following. The series has proven to be a valuable and enduring brand worldwide, and we could not be more excited to broaden the show’s breadth of viewership within the Freeform, Hulu and Disney+ ecosystem.”
The show’s still in good hands, with Spyglass Media Group and Alfred Street Industries producing. They’ve got a solid team of executive producers, including Barber, Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz, Dan Volpe, and Nan Strait.
Cutforth shared his thoughts, saying, “It is exciting and inspiring to have the opportunity to guide the evolution of Project Runway for a new generation.” Lipsitz chimed in, “The challenge to stay relevant while the world is changing at lightning speed makes us eager to not only honor our die-hard Project Runway fans, but also to introduce fresh and innovative ideas.”
I, for one, will miss Chrisitan Sirano and the judging panel. The only thing that will make me happy is if they bring back Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn. But Freeform isn’t going to pay them enough to do so.
