Taking to TikTok, Jride Flips explained how he makes cash thanks to his easy side hustle that anyone can do from the comfort of their sofa.

To make a profit whilst checking out the shop, Jride was on the lookout for viral items that are selling for a higher price elsewhere, such as on eBay.

This time the whizz, who regularly flogs goods on the site, got his hands on popular ceramic mugs that seem to be all the range on the internet right now.

Amongst these were several Care Bears Halloween mugs with a fitting orange design with spooky elements – perfect for the October season ahead of us.

Although Jride purchased the kitchen essentials for a mere $7 from the retailer, the going price on eBay was significantly higher and more profitable.

In the video, which was posted on his TikTok page, the savvy shopper said he’d been on the lookout for this design for some time now – and ensured to stock up.

”I’ve actually been searching for this mug in TJ Maxx for two weeks, so I got four of them.”

According to the money-smart man, these mugs tend to go for around $30 on eBay, with a hefty $6.95 shipping fee on top.

Luckily for the customer, the store appeared to be packed with hidden gems that he could flog for more, as there was also a Sunday Morning coffee mug he spent a mere $5 on.

Meanwhile, on eBay, he said, these hot pink mugs sell for five times the price, making him $25 each.

I ditched my job as a hairdresser to start a side hustle from home – now the business rakes in £13m

Urging fellow side hustle fans to not sleep on this money-making idea, Jride wrote in the caption: ”Make money shopping at TJ Maxx and selling the stuff on eBay!

”Retail arbitrage is the best side hustle of 2024.”

After posting the video on the platform, where it won him more than 500 comments, the customer left viewers totally divided.

Whilst some praised him for the simple cash-making scheme, others were not so impressed and slammed Jride for clearing the shelves.

One person shamed Jride, writing: ”Oh this is why I can’t find what I’m searching for.”

Side hustles and tax implications

Extra income you make from side hustles may need to be reported to the IRS.

If you receive more than $600 in gross payouts from a selling platform like eBay, the site will issue you a Form 1099-K to use in your tax return.

Individuals should calculate their adjusted gross income, taxable earnings, and deductions for the year.

Once they have that, they can use the 1040-ES form to calculate estimated taxes.

Another agreed, adding: ”Or you could leave it for others to enjoy.”

Someone else echoed the sentiment, commenting: ”I have no problem with ppl reselling from thrift stores or even a store like this, but leave a few for other ppl…….”

Luckily for Jride, whose side hustle was also described as ”actually insane”, there was also plenty of support – and he too had something to say to the haters.

Responding to a critic, the man said: ”You had the same opportunities as me and you didn’t pull through.

”You can’t blame anyone else for you not going.”
