5 Opponents Goldberg Should Face in WWE Retirement Match

On Nov. 2, professional wrestling icon Bill Goldberg announced that he would have a retirement match on WWE television next year on the SEC Network.

“Here’s the deal,” Goldberg said. “The news of the day is that, per three executives — Nick Khan, Chris Legentil, and Paul Levesque — in 2025, Goldberg is having his retirement match!”

This naturally had wrestling fans around the world speculating over who would be the best star to end the career of one of the most dominant superstars in professional wrestling history.

So, let’s take a look at five wrestlers who would be a great fit for Goldberg’s last match.

5. Chad Gable

Chad Gable is one of the best wrestlers on the WWE roster with a fantastic combination of technical ability, charisma, and surprising strength. It genuinely seems like he can have a great match with anyone, so it would only make sense to throw him in the ring with Goldberg.

Although he’s a spectacle, Goldberg isn’t known for his technical ability and he’s getting up there in age. An opponent like Gable would be a great choice to make the former WCW Heavyweight Champion look good.

4. Montez Ford

Montez Ford has been all over social media recently talking about how WWE has looked over him and not given him or his Street Profits tag team partner Angelo Dawkins. Why not give him a chance to prove himself against a living legend?

Ford showed that he was a human highlight reel when he fought in the 2023 Elimination Chamber match. Whether he wins or loses, there’s no doubt he could do the same with Goldberg.

3. Kevin Owens

Wrestling matches are always more interesting when the opponents have history together. One person currently on the WWE roster that has history with Goldberg is Kevin Owens, who was beaten for the WWE Universal Championship in about 20 seconds.

Owens deserves a rematch against Goldberg. And this time, he should be the one who wins it.

2. Bron Breakker

Bron Breakker has already been compared to Goldberg countless times. The current WWE Intercontinental Champion is fast, powerful, and uses a Spear as his finisher.

On top of that, Breakker’s family has a history with Goldberg. His uncle, Scott Steiner, had a feud with Goldberg back in WCW. If the two were to face off, it would be an incredible passing of the torch to a talented young superstar.

1. Gunther

In the end, the best choice is the most obvious choice. And nothing seems more obvious than Gunther being the wrestler to retire Goldberg.

Not only is Gunther one of the most dominant wrestlers of the modern day, he has also already had an encounter with Goldberg at Bad Blood 2024. The heat of a feud is already there, we just need someone to light the match.
