5 Christmas Movies You Can Only Watch on Hallmark+

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

The Hallmark Channel launched on television in 2001 but has grown into the go-to spot for Christmas films. The channel found success with its 2009 “Countdown to Christmas” series and continues to draw viewers back each year for some cheesy romance flicks.

With the rise of streaming, Hallmark unveiled the platform Hallmark+ in September 2024. Users can watch their favorite movies anywhere they go for $7.99/month or $79.99/annually — making it perfect for the holiday season. As of December 2024, members have access to over 40 original films.

Whether you are new to Hallmark+ or interested in the streaming service, we’ve picked out a few Christmas films that are worth watching.

Three Wiser Men and A Boy

Hallmark’s 2024 flick, Three Wiser Men and A Boy, is available to stream on Hallmark+. The film finds three brothers, Luke (Andrew W. Walker), Taylor (Tyler Hynes), and Stephan (Paul Campbell), joining together to put on a Christmas school musical for Luke’s son, Thomas. For those looking for a heartfelt, family-focused holiday movie, this is a sweet choice.

Happy Howlidays

Happy Howlidays spotlights another key part of some families: the pet dogs. As the title suggests, this Hallmark+ movie stars Jessica Lowndes as Mia, an editor for the Seattle Tourism Board who is spending the holidays alone. Or so she thought. “As the only one working, she’s drawn into an unusual encounter when she encounters a stray dog,” the film’s description reads.

A Biltmore Christmas

2023’s A Biltmore Christmas finds a screenwriter named Lucy (Bethany Joy Lenz) accidentally traveling back in time to the set of a fictional 1947 film, His Merry Wife! — a nod to the film’s inspiration from the Christmas classic, It’s A Wonderful Life. Lucy soon falls for her co-star, Jack (Kristoffer Polaha), while trying not to alter the timeline and affect her future.

Following Yonder Star

Abby (Brooke D’Orsay) is a television star who heads to a Vermont resort for a Christmas escape. However, she doesn’t have a room because of a booking error, causing her to stay at a local bed-and-breakfast instead.

As expected in the romance trope, she meets the widowed owner, Tom (John Brotherton) — who also doubles as a science teacher and leads the Christmas pageant. Abby offers to help, allowing their romance to take center stage. “Through newfound community, family and love, Abby discovers that hope sometimes comes in the most unexpected ways,” the description notes.

A Reason for the Season

Another Hallmark+ offering from 2024, A Reason for the Season, puts a new spin on A Christmas Carol. Evie (Taylor Cole) has to “grant Christmas wishes” to those who saved her life to gain access to her trust fund. She enlists the help of “a handsome local attorney” named Kyle (Kevin McGarry), and the two quickly fall for each other.
